Wrinkle Reducing Injections

For fine lines and wrinkles.
One of the most popular procedures in Cosmetic Medicine.

What is Botox?
The use of a Prescription Only Medication Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox), produces muscle relaxation treatment for frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. It safely restores a fresh and relaxed look.
It has been used successfully and safely for more than 30 years in many medical areas, such as Neurology, Urology, Surgery and Ophthalmology with no long term side effects reported.

  • Facial lines seem to disappear or diminish dramatically after the treatment
  • You can resume normal activities immediately
  • It only takes 2-3 days for the injections to begin to take effect
  • 7 days for full effect
  • Treatment lasts from 3-6 months
  • No anaesthetic is required.

How does it work?
Facial expressions occur when the brain sends a signal to muscle tissue. The treatment blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. This relaxes the muscles to stop them contracting, leaving the overlying skin smooth and unwrinkled. The treatment works only on the specific muscles injected leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual, producing normal facial expression without the wrinkles. It cannot "freeze" your facial expressions because it only works where you want it to.

How the treatment is performed
The medication is injected using a disposable syringe with a very fine needle. A very small amount of powder is diluted with bacteriostatic saline and injected very precisely into several locations on the face. These have been marked by the physician individually for each person according to their muscle structure.
For frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines, 3-5 injection sites are required. For excessive sweating several injections are required. Treatment takes around 15 minutes, depending on the number of areas you wish to treat.

After the treatment
You will be able to drive and engage in all of your usual daily activities immediately after your injections.

How long will the results last?
Anti-ageing injections are not permanent, so we recommend repeat treatments at 3-4 monthly intervals to maintain the effects. After the first 3-4 treatments, many patients will then only need a top up every 8-12 months.

Specialised Uses
Our experienced doctors can also use this treatment in selected patients to treat the following conditions:

  • to reduce lines in the lower part of the face
  • the corners of the mouth - sad lines
  • gummy smile
  • chin lines
  • neck lines
  • give 'mini face-lifts' - smokers lines
  • re-shaping of the nose
  • upper nose wrinkles (bunny lines)
  • excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Mandatory Medical Statement
The treatment involves the use of Prescription Only Medications, which can only be prescribed by a qualified Doctor.
The injections should be administered only by a Physician trained in the procedure.
Cautions : people with defective neuromuscular transmission disorders, presence of infection at site of injection, glaucoma, pregnancy and lactation.

Possible side-effects
Slight discomfort from the needle, small bruise at the site of injection, redness. There is a very small risk of infection from the use of injectables. In rare cases, the Botulinum toxin can migrate to nearby muscles, causing some weakness, such as drooping of the upper eyelid. This is a temporary side effect, lasting for a few weeks at most.
